Dutch pianist Sharon Niessen, born and raised in the Netherlands, captivates audiences with her lyrical storytelling, charismatic stage presence, and passionate interpretations. Known for her emotional playing and intelligent musicianship, she is celebrated as both a solo pianist and a chamber musician.

Sharon’s musical journey began at the age of 9, quickly leading her to acclaim as a prizewinner in prestigious national and international competitions, including the Princess Christina Competition, IMKA International Music Competition, and Charleston International Music Competition.

From an early age, she has performed in renowned venues across the Netherlands, such as Concertgebouw Amsterdam, TivoliVredenburg Utrecht, and Muziekgebouw Eindhoven. Her international career highlights include a landmark performance at Carnegie Hall in New York, a true milestone for any classical musician. She made her television debut in 2004 and has also been featured on radio broadcasts including NPO Klassiek. 

A devoted chamber musician, Sharon has performed with many acclaimed artists, including world champion whistler Geert Chatrou, flutist Ilonka Kolthof, soprano Miranda van Kralingen, and violinist/pianist Martine Wijers, the first violinist of André Rieu’s Johann Strauss Orchestra. She frequently collaborates with Martine in their violin-piano duo, captivating audiences with their musical chemistry. Sharon was also a member of the Maggiore Piano Trio, where she worked alongside award-winning violinist Anna Britala and cellist Camillo Cabassi.

As a soloist, Sharon has appeared with prominent Dutch orchestras such as the Philips Symphony Orchestra, Youth Orchestra of the Netherlands, Dutch Promenade Orchestra, and Helikon Orchestra. She has worked with distinguished conductors, including Sander Teepen, Jurjen Hempel, and Jules van Hessen, who are associated with leading ensembles such as the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and BBC National Orchestra. Notably, her tour performing Liszt’s *1st Piano Concerto* with the Youth Orchestra of the Netherlands remains a cherished highlight of her career.

Sharon’s artistry is showcased in her recently released album, a collection of live recitals that beautifully captures her dynamic range and profound musical storytelling. Each performance reveals her ability to connect deeply with the audience, transporting them through her heartfelt interpretations.

Her collaborations extend beyond traditional classical music, reflecting her versatility and passion for her craft. Sharon trained with esteemed pianists Ton Demmers, Jan Wijn, and Joop Celis at the Conservatory of Amsterdam and Fontys Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Tilburg. Today, she continues to develop her unique musical voice, weaving her talent, personality, and passion into every note she plays.
